Keeping Families Together
The “Keeping Families Together” initiative aims to support certain undocumented spouses and stepchildren of U.S. citizens in staying within the United States without facing the need to depart, which would usually result in a 10-year ban on reentry.
Through a process known as “parole in place,” eligible individuals can apply for legal permanent residency (green card) while remaining in the U.S. The key objective is to prevent family separation during the immigration process. To qualify, applicants must meet several criteria, including having continuously lived in the U.S. since June 17, 2014, and being married to a U.S. citizen by June 17, 2024, among other conditions.
